Graham Center Pit - Discovery Lab Outreach Event (11/20/12)

Inaugurated this past spring, the Discovery Lab has focused on several robotics projects and is receiving international media attention. On November 20th, 2012, they hosted a live demonstration at the Graham Center Pit from 2:30pm to 4:30pm. The FIU Discovery Lab is reaching out to students across campus to showcase their current projects and collect public opinions on their work. The demonstration was a success and attracted the attention of more than 200 students in just 2 hours and received over 50 resumes from students interested in interning with Discovery Lab.

Utilizing the overhead projector screen, the Discovery Lab played a video compilation of all their projects and interviews for all of FIU Graham Center to see. Professional videographers, journalism students, as well as bystanders filmed the live robotics demonstrations. New students who were eager to learn and contribute to Discovery Lab brought their resumes, filled out internship application forms, took outreach brochures, and won Discovery Lab T-shirts.

According to the TeleBot surveys that were handed out at the GC event, the majority of the students found out about Discovery Lab from this GC outreach event and through the mass email that was sent to the FIU College of Engineering prior to the event. Discovery Lab plans to host more outreach and recruitment events like this next year.
